5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding.
Verified PurchaseTruly outstanding resource. It's really many in one: it covers a great deal of approaches to discourse that would otherwise take many volumes to read. I was glad to have purchased it and will look out for more from Schiffrin in the future.

2.0 out of 5 stars actually pretty bad
Verified PurchaseI gotta give Deborah SOME credit; compiling the research and writing a book like this is no easy task. HOWEVER! If your intention is to learn about discourse analysis/how to do discourse analysis, good luck. I can't quite put my finger on why this book is so inaccessible (writing style, poor explanation of material/concepts(?)), but I would hope there is a better alternative out there.

1.0 out of 5 stars Please Re-Write
Verified PurchaseI know, I know, Discourse is all about Schiffrin, I mean- she wrote the book! However, this book is now outdated and is far too long-winded and meandering. I suggest a re-write, Dr. Schiffrin.
