Okinawa JALT:

English is an International Language

Date: Sunday, March 24th, 2002 Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Speaker: Amy Stotts

Description:
While the phrase English is an international language is often given as a reason for English language study, we are rarely able to build such global aspirations into our courses. For many of us teaching in homogeneous, non-native speaking environments, it is a challenge not only to encourage students to see English as a useful, useable language, but also as one that offers access to greater understanding of World cultures. In this presentation, methods of observing, analyzing and making contact with other cultures through video, the Internet, literature and fieldwork will be examined and discussed.
