Extensive Reading SIG of JALT:

English for Academic Purposes + Extensive Reading = ?

Date: Sunday, June 28th, 2026 Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Speaker: Paul Mathieson(Nara Medical University)

Description:
Many people think Extensive Reading is hard for academic English classes because the books are not academic or fun. Luckily, a new 10-book science-fiction series called My Mysterious Friend Sora fixes this. It uses all 570 words from the Academic Word List. In this presentation, the speaker will explain how they made these books and how they help students learn university vocabulary. They will also discuss how to use this series on Xreading in other English classes.
