Amnesty International, Group 78 Tokyo:

Settling in Japan - What you need to know

Date: Wednesday, March 19th, 2008 Time: 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM

Speaker: Arudou Debito

Description:
Amnesty members and groups generally don't take up cases in their country of residence, but even so, we should know about the human rights situation in Japan, and about our own rights as residents of Japan. So AITEN invites you to hear academic, Japan Times columnist and rights activist Arudou Debito speak at this month's meeting, open to all. Debito will be presenting from his new co-authored book, HANDBOOK FOR NEWCOMERS, MIGRANTS, AND IMMIGRANTS TO JAPAN (Akashi Shoten Inc. 2008). Learn how to make the best of life over here, from port of entry to funeral arrangements. Topics include: getting the right visa, getting a better job, dealing with family and employment issues, how to be an agent for social change. The presentation (in English) will be followed by a lengthy Q and A session (Japanese OK) so you can raise other issues of your choice as well. Debito's website is at www.debito.org.
