JSHS SIG of JALT:

Changing Together! The First JALT JSH SIG Junior / Senior High School Teacher Development Workshop

Date: Sunday, June 12th, 2011 Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Speaker: Takashi Miura, Gregory Paul Glasgow, Peter J. Collins, Tom Gorham and Jon Gorham, Yoichi Watari, Ben Shearon

Description:
The world is changing. Our students are changing. Their needs are changing. The tests are changing. Educational theories are changing. Even English itself, is changing. Are you? The JALT Junior / Senior High School Special Interest Group (JALT JSH SIG) is proud to present its first teacher development workshop. This workshop is the kick-off event for our sustainable development project, which we hope will provide a supportive community for those junior / senior high school teachers interested in improving themselves and their working environment.

If you are interested in positive change, then please join us. The workshop will consist of morning sessions on basic English teaching theory and practice, focusing on those elements of particular interest to junior and senior high school teachers. In the afternoon there will be presentations by junior / senior high school teachers about what they are trying out in the classroom and their successes and failures. Finally, there will be discussion seminars during which all the participants can find some focus for change in their own teaching life.

Change does not finish with the end of the seminar. We are planning an online forum to provide support for all participants as they begin to try and implement change in their teaching. The SIG will also be holding follow-up meetings throughout the year, where teachers can join sessions, presentations, and discussion seminars. This is just the start. We look forward to seeing you on June 12th.
