ETJ East Tokyo:
Use of Course Books for Communicative Aims
Date: Sunday, September 28th, 2025 Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Speaker: Tomoko Kikuchi (University of Leicester)
Description:
Hello everybody. My name is Tomoko Kikuchi, a graduate student at the University of Leicester. I will submit my dissertation in September this year and would like to present it to ETJ East Tokyo members. The topic is "Use of course books for communicative aims". I will be discussing "How Japanese elementary school teachers of English should use course books to realize the main communicative aims of curricula?" and "How do teachers link PPP-type lessons to meaningful interactions?" To answer the two questions, I have conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews. I will discuss the reasons why PPP-type lessons remain dominant in Japan despite criticism.
Organization: ETJ East Tokyo (English Teachers in Japan) (ETJ East Tokyo)
