1:30 - 2:30 pm Tricks In My Bag: Classroom Management Techniques for Large Junior High School Classes - Beth Wolff, Senshu University Matsudo Junior High School. Do you teach large classes of 30, 40 (or more) students? Let's get them learning and communicating productively! This workshop will share some techniques for managing and teaching large junior high school classes, particularly solo or team-taught Oral Communications (conversation) classes. Workshop participants will experience and share some techniques and lesson strategies that can be used in a variety of contexts, such as grouping students into pairs and small groups, tips for lesson planning and getting to know students, plus some daily classroom routines. New and experienced teachers are welcome! Beth Kaplan Wolff is an English teacher at Senshu University Junior High School in Matsudo. She has an M.S. in TESOL from the University of Rochester in New York, and holds a New York State teaching certification in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages for grades K-12. She has taught ESOL and elementary school classes in New York, Louisiana, Ecuador and Japan.

2:50 - 4:50 pm Discovery Through Reflecting on our Teaching Experience - Andy Boon. As teachers, our everyday classroom experiences provide us with the potential to learn more about our individual pedagogic practice. However, in the midst of teaching, there is little time for us to consider the reasons for or implications of the many instinctive decisions we make during our classes. Thus, we need to make opportunities to return to our experiences in order to increase our awareness of what it is we really do, to reflect on it, understand it, challenge it, revise it and grow from it. This presentation will provide a practical demonstration of how two teachers can work together using the supportive and non-judgmental interactional framework of Cooperative Development (Edge, 2002) or Instant Messenger Cooperative Development (Boon, 2005) to facilitate and sustain reflection on classroom action and ultimately to help each other gain new perspectives on their teaching.
Andy Boon is currently teaching at Toyo Gakuen University, Chiba and studying a PhD at Aston University, UK. His research interests focus on teacher development and action research.
