Landmine/UXO Session

THE SILENT KILLERS: The Issue of Global Landmines/UXO

Speakers:

Dr Kevin P. Kavanaugh, University of Tsukuba and HALO Trust -- Dr Kavanaugh has wide experience with UN operations in Bosnia, Tajikistan and Kosovo, and with the training of mine clearance workers in Cambodia.

Mr Kiyoshi Amemiya, Yamanashi Hitachi Construction Machinery -- Mr Amemiya's company produces, among other things, mine-clearing machines for areas where they are needed most - Cambodia, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Ms Rie Gibson is taking part in an exchange program linking Japanese schools with schools in Rwanda on landmine and other issues.

Program:

  • Dr Kavanaugh will introduce the issue of landmines, using Cambodia as a case study.
  • Mr Amemiya will then discuss his activities in various countries.
  • Ms. Rie Gibson will then talk about her school's exchange program on landmine issues.
  • Open forum

Where:

  • 1st floor Conference Hall, Suekawa Kaikan, Ritsumeikan University, Kinugasa Campus

When:

  • Saturday 25th September, from 18.30 to 20.00

  • Free to all (PGLIII participants and non-participants are encouraged to attend), there will be 180 seats available,
