Saitama JALT:
Systems for Success: Designing Activities for the Junior/Senior High School English Class
Date: Sunday, July 6th, 2003 Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Speaker: Roger Pattimore
Description:
While many teachers are constantly on the lookout for new activities, the presenter believes that knowing the systems behind commercial activities will result in teachers being able to create their own. Also, certain systems for activities and lesson plans work well for large junior/senior high classes. Once the systems are understood, designing classroom activities becomes relatively easy and even fun. The presenter will cover activity design, focusing on making drills into games. Creating tension using simple concepts like timing, competition and creating worthwhile objectives will be discussed. Several activities will be demonstrated and participants will be invited to share their own. Time permitting, systems of lesson planning will also be discussed. A demonstration lesson plan will be presented for critique.
